The data we present are part of the AGRO-ECOSERVICES project (Assessing Ecosystem Services and Disservices provided by Arthropod species in Azorean Agroecosystems) that aims to combine novel, direct and quantitative tools for monitoring agro-biodiversity, ecosystem services (ES; natural pest control by predation, pollination, decomposition, herbivory on invasive plants) and disservices (ED; predation on beneficial arthropods, herbivory on native and crop plants), and evaluating the relative importance of native and non-native organisms as ES/ED providers. Active Aerial Searching (only in maize-fields) and Pitfall traps were used to sample the arthropod biodiversity (pollinators and predatory spiders, true-bugs and beetles and main insect pests) on three agricultural habitats of Terceira Island, namely citrus orchards, maize fields and vineyards. This publication contributes not only to a better knowledge of the arthropods present in agro-ecosystems of Terceira Island, but will also contribute as a baseline for future monitoring schemes in Azorean agroecosystems targeting the long-term change on arthropod diversity and abundance

The Diretiva Aves (Birds Directive, Council Directive on the conservation of wild birds 79/409/EEC) was implemented in 1979. This Directive frames the conservation and management of wild birds in Europe and human interactions with this group. The Diretiva Aves sets broad objectives and includes the identification and classification of Zonas de Protecção Especial (ZPE) (Special Protection Areas - SPAs) for the rarest and most vulnerable species, listed in Annex I, as well as to all migratory species (not listed in Annex I) regularly occurring in the European territory. These species should be subject to special conservation measures concerning their habitat, to ensure survival and reproduction in their area of distribution, with special importance to the protection of wetlands and particularly those of international importance. The Article 12 of the Diretiva Aves requires to all Member States to forward to the Commission, every three years, a report on the implementation of national provisions taken under the Directive. Nevertheless, the Commission and all Member States have agreed to forward this report, considering its content and reporting cycle, in the same year as the report drawn up pursuant to Article 17 of the Diretiva Habitats (Habitats Directive, Council Directive on the conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora 92/43/EEC), which requires more detailed information every six years. The preparation of this report follows the approved European Union format, which includes a general report on the implementation of the Diretiva Aves (Annex I), and specific reports (Annex II), containing cartographic components (in GIS format) with 10 km X 10 km grids relative to the areas of distribution of each reported species.

The composition of the lichenic epiphytic flora in the coastal region of Alentejo, which includes the area of the Sines industrial complex, has been updated through floristic surveys on various phorophytes, but in particular, olive and fig trees. The present results, which are the result of fieldwork carried out in 1997, were compared with those obtained in the studies carried out in 1983. A decrease in the floristic richness was verified, as a result of the degradation of habitats and an increase in the emission of poluents. It was also possible to establish the relationship between lichen diversity and various environmental factors, through the application of Co-inertia Analysis. This publication results in two datasets, an event table: where the sampling sites are described; and an occurrence table, which shows the lichen species found at each of these sites.

The Atlas of the Bats of continental Portugal project arose with the overall goal of updating the information on bat species, with the following specific objectives: (1) Mapping the current distribution of bat species in continental Portugal; (2) Feeding a geo-referenced database that allows easy and generalised access to the information; (3) Describing patterns of specific richness of chiropterans and (4) Making information available for research, planning and management applied to bat conservation. As complementary objectives, it was intended to: (1) Integrated in the 2011-2012 Year of the Bat campaign, contribute to the dissemination of the importance of bat conservation among the populations and all entities with responsibility in land management; and (2) Contribute to the mobilization and stimulation of professionals and others interested in issues related to chiropterans. The achievement of these objectives resulted from a great collective effort, which we value and intend to continue in the future. This is the only way to cope with the constant need to adjust and update the information in this Atlas, particularly for species that are difficult to identify or that will be subject to taxonomic revisions. You can access to Atlas Bats from Continental Portugal 2013 in http://www2.icnf.pt/portal/pn/biodiversidade/patrinatur/atlas-morcegos/resource/Atlas_Morcegos.pdf

The wolf subspecies present in Iberian Peninsula, Canis lupus signatus (Cabrera 1907), has in Portugal the status of Endangered (Red Book of the Vertebrates of Portugal), being covered by specific national legislation (Law no. 90/88, of 13th of December August and Decree-Law No. 54/2016, of 25 August), which grants it the Status of Protected Species. This study intents to update the existing knowledge about the situation of the wolf and gather information to support the management of the species and the environment in which it is located in Portugal. the National Census of Wolf 2002/2003 developed by a partnership established between ICN and Grupo Lobo, whose objectives were: - update the distribution map of this species in Portugal; - estimate the number and distribution of existing family groups; - analyze the evolution of the population in relation to the results obtained in the work carried out under the LIFE Program between 1994 and 1996. After compiling the existing information about the species presence, field prospecting work was carried out, which consisted, above all, in conducting routes in search of evidence of the presence of the species, as well as listening and waiting stations. The presence of the species was detected in about 20,000 km2, of which in only about 16,000 km2 the species is estimated to occur regularly (distribution area). The sampling unit used was the decachylomeric square of the Universal Transverse Mercator reticulum (UTM 10x10 km), since the lobe presents movements and vital areas of this order of magnitude, and for this reason this mesh is referred to in several works as the most appropriate to study this species.63 packs were individualized, of which 51 are considered confirmed and 12 probable. Of these, 54 are located to the north of the Douro river and only 9 to the south of it.

Article 12 of the Birds Directive requires Member States to send the Commission, a report on the application of national provisions adopted pursuant to the Directive. This report for the period 2008-2012 was submitted to the European Commission, and will henceforth be prepared every 6 years. In preparing this report, a format approved at the European Union level was used, which includes a general report on the implementation of the Birds Directive, and specific reports containing individual assessments on the status and trend of all relevant species. The report also includes cartographic components (in GIS format) with the national geographic expression in 10 km X 10 km squares relating to the distribution and range areas of the reported breeding species.

The Atlas of breeding birds of Portugal makes an inventory of all 235 breeding species, from which 221 are native species, and 205 presenting a regular breeding activity. The Atlas covers a period from 1999 to 2005. The project "Atlas of breeding Birds of Portugal" aimed to know the current distribution of breeding species in Continental Portugal and in the autonomous regions of Madeira and the Azores. It pretended also to characterize the abundance, when possible, of national populations of these species, during the period of 1999 to 2005. This dataset comprised two layers of information: Directed Census - Distribution data of birds target-species by directed census, except for Aquila adalberti, Aegypius monachus and Pterocles alchata whose location is confidential (includes marginal 10x10 km UTM grids); Other species - distribution data for the remaining species (excluding UTM 10x10 km marginal grids). The project involved the participation of ca. 500 volunteers, more than a dozen professional collaborators and various working teams. The project results from a fundamental partnership with three other entities, namely the SPEA – Sociedade Portuguesa para o Estudo das Aves (Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds, a non-governmental association that works for the conservation of birds and their habitats in Portugal and which brings together numerous members interested in this faunal group); the Parque Natural da Madeira (PNM, Madeira Natural Park), and the Direção Regional do Ambiente dos Açores (DRA, Regional Environment Directorate of the Azores), entities responsible for the conservation of wild birds in the autonomous regions. The Atlas contains occurrence data for breeding birds belonging to 20 orders, 58 families, 115 genus, and 180 species.
