The dataset contains records of vascular plants collected in the lower valley of River Sabor (NE Portugal) in the scope of the long-term Ecological Monitoring Program (PME) of the Baixo Sabor Hydroelectric Dams (AHBS), promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A, to assess the level of damage in the autoctonous flora (species, communities and habitats) of conservation relevance in the work front (dam structures and complementary works – dam yards, quarries, heaps, work front and road accesses) during the dams construction period (2010-14). Plant inventories were taken in line transects performed on foot, in all work front sites, along 42 km upstream, in the Sabor valley, and in the Vilariça stream. A total of 2905 events produced 194 confirmed presences. The most common species were Festuca duriotagana with 21330 individuals/m2, Ruscus aculeatus (2399) and Buxus sempervirens (2260).

Data were collected in May 2012, during field visits to 23 sampling stations located along the lower Sabor valley up to 70 km upstream of the mouth, and in the Vilariça stream. A total of 9552 individuals belonging to 78 species and other taxonomic categories were found and identified.

The dataset contains records of land birds (Aves) collected in the lower valley of River Sabor (NE Portugal), in the scope of the long-term Ecological Monitoring Program (PME) of the Baixo Sabor Hydroelectric Dams (AHBS), promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. This dataset includes results of surveys made in and around the area affected by the dams, from February 2010 to September 2014. Sampling was performed close to extant stream weirs, as well as close to locations where weirs were planned to be built in the future under the mitigation program of AHBS. The presence and identity of bird species were assessed by visual and/or acoustic observation, with the support of binoculars. The records include taxa identified at the species or genus levels.

The dataset contains records of a key prey species of Bonelli’s Eagle (Aquila fasciata) and other large birds of prey, the Rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) (Mammalia, Lagomorpha), collected in the lower valley of River Sabor (NE Portugal), in the scope of the long-term Ecological Monitoring Program (PME) of the Baixo Sabor Hydroelectric Dams (AHBS), promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. This dataset includes results of line transects performed each season (winter, spring, summer and autumn), in the known territories of the Bonelli's Eagle in the lower Sabor river valley, from February 2010 to September 2014. Data consists of presence signs (scats, latrines) recorded per transect surveyed.

The dataset contains records of nests of cliff-nesting species of high conservation priority, namely birds of prey and Black Stork (Ciconia ciconia) (Aves) collected in the lower valley of River Sabor (NE Portugal), in the scope of the long-term Ecological Monitoring Program (PME) of the Baixo Sabor Hydroelectric Dams (AHBS), promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. This dataset includes results of nest surveys made in and around the area affected by the dam, from May 2010 to June 2014. Data consists of observations of all nests of the target species found in the study area, which were followed throughout the reproduction period (March-August) of each year. The records include the number of young produced by each couple in each year. The target species were Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), Bonelli's Eagle (Aquila fasciata), Griffon (Gyps fulvus), Egyptian Vulture (Neophron percnopteris), Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus) and Black Stork (Ciconia nigra). Additional species whose nests or potential nesting sites were also recorded, included Black Kite (Milvus migrans), Common Kestrel (Falco tinnunculus) and Eagle Owl (Bubo bubo). Due to the vulnerability of nest site locations of these species, the precision of the geographic coordinates was degraded to 0.01, according to the recommendations of Chapman & Grafton (2008). The dataset with the original (undergraded) coordinates may be provided upon request by the resource contact from EDP, who will define the terms and conditions for its use.

This dataset includes results of surveys made in the upper Sabor sub-basin, outside the area of influence of the dams, from February 2010 to September 2014. These points were thus used as controls to assess the impact of the Sabor Dams. Sampling was performed in selected points distributed along the Maçãs and Angueira river valleys. The presence and identity of bird species were assessed by visual and/or acoustic observation, with the support of binoculars. The records include taxa identified at the species or genus levels.

A total of 32 acoustic sampling points was established along the lower Sabor river valley and in its main tributaries, which were visited each year in the peak of the species' breeding season (February) from 2010 to 2014. Data contains a total of 19 observation events of Bubo bubo (17) and Strix aluco (4).

The dataset contains records of riparian bird species (Aves) of high conservation priority, collected in the lower valley of River Sabor (NE Portugal), in the scope of the long-term Ecological Monitoring Program (PME) of the Baixo Sabor Hydroelectric Dams (AHBS), promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. This dataset includes results of surveys made in and around the area affected by the dam, from February 2010 to September 2014. Data consists of observations of the target species (the Kingfisher and the Dipper) performed in fixed sampling points or transects directed to riparian birds, as well as additional observations. Observations came from all the study area around the Sabor river, from its mouth up to 42 km upstream. The presence and identity of bird species were assessed by visual and/or acoustic observation, with the support of binoculars. The records include taxa identified at the species level.
