1a245471-35e1-4039-8f1a-90ddf76a8316 Long-term monitoring of microbiota in coastal and ICES fishing areas of NW Spain 1995-01-01 Since 1995, the CSIC-IIM has conducted annual monitoring of pathogen and parasite communities in coastal regions off the Rias Baixas (NW Spain) and in ICES fishing areas across the Celtic Seas and Atlantic Iberian coast ecoregions. The initiative targets bacteria, viruses, parasites, protists and fungi associated with fish and shellfish production areas, as well as their surrounding environments, from intertidal zones to continental slope.<div>The program contributes to understanding the large-scale, long-term and landscape-level patterns of cryptic biodiversity relevant to "One Health" approaches. Pathogen communities are sampled from host organisms (fish and shellfish) and from water and sediment. Taxonomic assignments are based on DNA barcoding and metabarcoding, following international standards.
