A visual assessment is conducted annually on the same trees on each plot (size of each plot is 0,25 ha), focusing on crown condition and crown damage. The crown condition assessment includes tree status, social class, crown shading, crown form, needle/leaf loss, annual seed production, secondary shoots, flowering, transparency, and visibility. The crown damage assessment records the cause of damage, the affected part of the tree, the age of the damage, the extent and location of the damage, the present damage symptoms, the scientific name of the damaging agent, and the specification of the damage. To ensure consistency and comparability, the assessment is always conducted by the same person or team across all plots, minimizing inter-observer variability.
