    <abstract>
      <para>This dataset was developed as part of the RESTORE4Cs project, which aims to assess and enhance the role of coastal wetland restoration in mitigating climate change while delivering critical ecosystem services. The project focuses on understanding the interactions between biodiversity, carbon sequestration, and socio-economic benefits provided by these dynamic ecosystems. As part of this effort, six case pilots were selected to represent diverse coastal wetland types across Europe. These sites encompass a range of ecological conditions, management histories, and socio-environmental contexts, providing a broad basis for assessing wetland functionality and restoration potential. The dataset maps habitats and ecosystem services across these six case studies, offering a detailed spatial representation of: Habitat types present within the selected wetlands, classified according to the standardized European Nature Information System (EUNIS), v2012, and v2021 (terrestrial)/2022 (marine); and Ecosystem services provided by these habitats, according to the Common International Classification of Ecosystem Services (CICES) v5.1. This dataset serves as a crucial resource for scientists, policymakers, and conservation practitioners, enabling evidence-based decision-making in coastal wetland management and restoration. It facilitates comparative analyses across different wetland systems, providing insights into how restoration can enhance climate resilience and biodiversity while delivering essential ecosystem services to local communities.</para>

      <abstract>
        <para>All major European Union (EU) policies recognise the key role of wetlands to achieve the EU objectives regarding climate neutrality, biodiversity protection, zero-pollution, flood protection, and circular economy. Therefore, assessing the current extent and state of European wetlands, their current and potential greenhouse gases (GHG) profile and their medium to long-term mitigation capacity through restoration, or other measures, are key priorities of the European Union to tackle climate change. Led by the University of Aveiro, the Horizon project RESTORE4Cs (Modelling RESTORation of wEtlands for Carbon pathways, Climate Change mitigation and adaptation, ecosystem services, and biodiversity, Co-benefits) will assess the role of restoration action on wetlands capacity in terms of climate change mitigation and a wide range of ecosystem services using an integrative socio-ecological systems approach.</para>
