- Description
- The information on species presence comes from published sources, grey literature and unpublished data collected by researchers of universities and research institutions. Published sources include two non-digitally available checklists (Fanfani et al. 2006; Maltzeff et al., 2013) and data gathered from published papers (Ukmar et al. 2007, Amori et al. 2010, Landucci et al. 2010, Pinzari Manuela et Pinzari Mario 2012, Gonthier et al. 2014, Domeneghetti et al. 2015, Fattorini et Vigna Taglianti 2015, Fattorini et al. 2015, Gori 2015, Pinzari et al. 2015, Pinzari et al. 2017, Rivosecchi et Maltzeff 2015, Zilli et Pavesi 2015) on national and international journals retrieved via a literature search by public bibliographic repositories available online (i.e Google Scholar, Scopus, Web of Science, JStor, etc…). The electronic search was performed through the use of combined groups of keywords (biodiversity, Castelporziano, species, flora, fauna, animals, vegetation, Fungi, Insecta, etc...) and considering studies published between 2006 and 2019.
Method Step
- Description
- Data gathered from the different sources were combined to build a preliminary dataset. All non-digitally available data were manually transferred to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, 5390 occurrence records were digitalized by printed checklists. These data were integrated with unpublished data (658 records) already available in digital format, and with the data gathered from papers available online (277 records) and entered into the spreadsheet by hand. In total 6327 data records are stored in the dataset. The data were screened for random digitization errors (mistakes made during transfer from handwritten documents to digital format) and duplicate values, resulting from data sources reporting on the same data, were removed. The collected data records were structured according with the Data Schema of the LifeWatch Italy Infrastructure (https://www.lifewatchitaly.eu), which is based on Darwin Core standard and controlled vocabularies (http://ecoportal.lifewatch.eu). The standard fields selected are related to the location, occurrence, taxon, alien trait and conservation status. The species taxonomy was verified using the taxon match service offered by LifeWatch Italy Infrastructure based on the Taxonomic Authority File of three nomenclators: the Pan-European Species directories Infrastructure (PESI - http://www.eu-nomen.eu/portal ), the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS - http://www.marinespecies.org ) and the Catalogue of Life (www.catalogueoflife.org). Moreover, a board of taxonomists of the LifeWatch Italy community has been also consulted to resolve the rare cases of no match with nomenclators or uncertain taxonomic status. All duplicates records were removed from the dataset.
