Marine Biodiversity Observation Network for Europe (MBON Europe) dashboard for monitoring sites

The dashboard is available at https://mbon-europe.lifewatch.eu/ and shows data in both map and tabular form.<div>It allows researchers and users to discover where the Marine Biodiversity Observation Network for Europe (MBON Europe) active monitoring sites are located across Europe and to filter, export and access associated metadata such as monitoring info, geographic coverage, habitat, ecological guild, and taxonomic classification.

Each monitoring site has an associated record in the LifeWatch ERIC Metadata Catalogue, where all properties of the research site are listed.</div><div><br></div><div>Data come from a survey having the purpose of collating information on what monitoring of marine biodiversity has and/or is occurring in European seas through the members of the EuroMarine MBON Europe Long Term Scientific Working Group. </div><div>The final objective is to be able to synthesise the findings to identify opportunities for collaboration, filling gaps and recommendations about improving the timely reporting of trends in marine biodiversity data in Europe.</div><div><br></div><div>Long term time series are essential to recognise and understand trends that may be due to natural or human activities, especially climate change. MBON Europe will formalise coordination between organisations through Memoranda of Understanding (MoU), collate information on what monitoring is being done and how, discuss how to harmonise methods, facilitate data publication, synthesise the current situation, and develop a strategy for improved coordination.</div><div><br></div><div>It is developed, powered, and supported by LifeWatch ERIC, and is continuously updated according to the needs of the MBON-Europe community.</div>
