Description

Vertical profile of water temperature were determined at noon using an underwater unit BIC radiometer (Biospherical Instruments Inc., CA, USA), equipped with temperature and depth sensors, and performing measurements at 305, 320 and 380 nm wavelengths in the UV spectrum, and PAR range (400–700 nm). Diffuse attenuation coefficients for downward irradiance were determined from the slope of the linear regression of the natural logarithm of downwelling irradiance versus depth.

Sampling

Study Extent

La Caldera Lake is an oligotrophic high mountain lake (3050 m above sea level), located in Sierra Nevada Mountain.

Sampling Description

Field data collection was carried out from 2013 to 2016. Sampling was performed at least three times per year over the free ice period: August, September and October in 2013 and 2014; June, July, August and October in 2015, and once a month from June to October in 2016. Samples were collected using a 10 L-Niskin bottle at the deepest point of the lake from four depths: 0.5 m below the surface (depth 1), 0.5 m above the bottom (depth 4), and two intermediate depths (depth 2 and depth 3). Samples were filtered through a 45-μm pore size mesh to remove zooplankton and used to measure biological and chemical variables.
