    <abstract>
      <para>The dataset collects all the nominal Amphipoda species retrieved from the scientific literature and the respective distribution across marine European and North Atlantic African waters. In this dataset, each record is associated with taxonomic information (i.e. species, genus, family, order, class, phylum, kingdom) and sampling event details including date, location and geographical coordinates. The records were retrieved together with the associated geographical coordinates (longitude and latitude); where publications did not provide geographical coordinates, the occurrences were placed at the point closest to the sampling site. The occurrence records included in the dataset were collected from 1936 to 2024.</para>

The bibliographic search was conducted using Google Scholar's “Advanced Search” tool, using the keywords “amphipod*”, “peracarid*”, “Crustacea*”, “checklist" in combination with the names of European countries and seas, extending the search to the North African coast. About 150 articles have been consulted. Species occurring in benthic and pelagic, brackish, near-freshwater, or transitional ecosystems have been included to ensure a complete representation of species occupying the interface between marine and freshwater environments.</para>

      <title>National Biodiversity Future Center</title>
      <abstract>
        <para>The National Biodiversity Future Center (NBFC) is the first National Research and Innovation Center dedicated to biodiversity, funded by the MUR through European Union funds - NextGenerationEU. It is a coordinating structure that unites and enhances research efforts, while simultaneously making knowledge and technologies accessible to diverse actors working on the territory. There are more than 2,000 researchers from research centers, universities and companies working within the center implementing basic, applied and innovation research actions dedicated to Mediterranean biodiversity to generate value for the country. The objective of this project is to identify suitable strategies for monitoring, conserving, restoring and valorising the biodiversity of species and habitats in different Italian regions. The Center provides scientific knowledge and technological innovation that make it possible to face biodiversity loss, support ecosystem resilience, monitor endangered species, and restore disturbed biological communities, contributing to the goal of protecting 30% of Italy's territory by 2030, as required by the European Union.
Project funded under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), Mission 4 Component 2 Investment 1.4, NextGenerationEU. Award Number: Project code CN_00000033, Concession Decree No. 1034 of 17 June 2022 adopted by the Italian Ministry of University and Research, CUP B73C22000790001, Project title “National Biodiversity Future Center – NBFC”.</para>
