Coastal ecosystem monitoring in the Saronikos Gulf (Eastern Mediterranean)

This long-term monitoring program, active since 1985, focuses on environmental quality and biodiversity in the Saronikos Gulf, Greece. Seasonal sampling targets phytoplankton, zooplankton, benthic organisms, habitats, and hazardous substances to support ecosystem assessment. Sampling is stratified over depth (0-90 m) and season, including CTD profiling and sediment analysis. The program informs biogeochemical dynamics and biodiversity trends in a semi-enclosed coastal system heavily influenced by urban and industrial inputs.
