Records have been compiled using citizen science observations and social media searches. Citizen science records were gathered through the Facebook group "Monitoraggio cimice asiatica in Sardegna" or from other photographic reports or specimens' collections reported to the involved scientists from CNR-IRET Sassari, Agris Sardegna - Servizio Ricerca nell'Arboricoltura and UNISS-Department of Agriculture. All observations, specimens and photographic records have been validated through taxonomic identification of entomologists belonging to the research group involved. After its first record, occurred in 2016, the Facebook group "Monitoraggio cimice asiatica in Sardegna" was opened in 2018 to gather photo of specimens of H. halys from citizen scientists. Some of the records included in the dataset do not appear in the Facebook group as they have been collected separately thanks to citizens who communicated directly with the involved scientists. In addition, records in the datasets belonging to the years 2016-2018, were gathered from the research group involved in the project through online searches on social media. All observations, specimens and photographic records have been validated through taxonomic identification of entomologists belonging to the research groups involved.
