Macrozoobenthos data collected in the hydrographic basin of Flumini Mannu - Cixerri, Sardinia, Italy, during the years 1992-1993.
The dataset contains taxonomic and body size data of the benthic macroinvertebrate communities collected in the hydrographic basin of Flumini Mannu - Cixerri (Sardinia, Italy) during the years 1992-1993. Sampling sites were located along two main basins Flumini Mannu and Cixerri, and other smaller coastal basins. Data refer to 98 taxa and 14566 individuals.

- Description

The study was performed using the leaf pack technique at 12 sampling sites distributed throughout the hydrographic basin in four seasons. Phragmites australis leaves were cut into 10 cm-long pieces, oven-dried at 60°C for 72 h, weighed into 5.0 ± 0.1 g lots and enclosed in nylon bags (0.5 cm mesh size). In the four seasons 20 leaf packs were distributed at each sampling site, anchored to rocks and exposed for 30-days. After 30 days, the leaf packs were retrieved from the study sites and placed in a plastic bag, sealed and returned to the laboratory in an insulated cool box. The leaf material was carefully washed in flowing water and sieved in an 800 ?m mesh size sieve in order to remove both organic and inorganic sediments and benthic macroinvertebrates. All animals were identified to the genus level, and, whenever possible, to species level, counted, measured (body length) and their body mass determined.
Sampling
- Study Extent

The Flumini Mannu and the Cixerri are two rivers in southern Sardinia province of Cagliari (Italy).
- Sampling Description
-
The sampling design was as follows: 4 seasons, 12 sampling sites and 20 leaf packs for sampling sites.
