Method Step
- Description
-
The sampling strategy was based on leaf pack technique. The leaves used as detritus were Phragmites australis. Before sampling, leaf packs (5 mm mesh size) were filled with 3.000 + 0.005 g of oven-dried leaves (60 °C, 72 h). Samplings were carried out in summer 2005 and winter 2006 in 3 sampling sites. For each sampling site, 15 leaf packs with leaves of Phragmites australis were placed. Three packs were retrieved after 3, 7, 10, 20 and 30 days of continuous submersion from each site in summer and in winter.

Method Step
- Description
-
Leaf packs were placed in separate plastic containers and rapidly brought to the laboratory, where the leaves were gently washed with tap water to remove sediments and macroinvertebrate colonizers. All animals were identified to the genus level, and, whenever possible, to species level, counted, measured (body length) and their body mass determined.
