The dataset contains records of vascular plants collected in the lower valley of River Sabor (NE Portugal) in the scope of the long-term Ecological Monitoring Program (PME) of the Baixo Sabor Hydroelectric Dams (AHBS), promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A, to assess the temporal dynamics of selected habitats of conservation relevance, before and after the dams implantation. This dataset includes results of surveys made in and around the area affected by the dams, from May 2010 to August 2014. Plant inventories were made along the lower Sabor river valley and in some tributaries, from the river mouth up to 42 km upstream.

The dataset contains occasional records of terrestrial birds (Aves) collected in the lower valley of the River Tua, and included in the Complementary Studies (2009-2010) of the Environmental Impact Assessment of the Foz Tua Hydroelectric Dam, promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. Data were collected between April and May 2010 during field visits to 16 sampling points with favourable habitats in 20 2x2 km UTM squares on the area of the lower Tua river valley directly or indirectly affected by the Foz Tua dam. The occurrence of birds was recorded whenever individuals were seen or heard in the vicinity of the observer.

The dataset contains Phytoplankton records of samples collected at Baixo Sabor reservoir during the first year of the Ecology Monitoring Program (PME) of Baixo Sabor Hydroelectric Scheme, promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. Samples were collected in the deeper zone of the reservoir, at a fixed station 1300 m upstream of the dam, in 6 campaigns carried out between March and October of 2016. The targeted taxa were phytoplankton species, included as biological quality element for ecological quality in the framework of the EU’s Water Directive.

The occurrence of birds was recorded when individuals were seen or heard around the point in a 10-minute census.

The dataset contains records of large and medium-sized mammals (Mammalia: Carnivora, Chiroptera, Cetartiodactyla and Lagomorpha) collected in the lower valley of the River Tua, and included in the Complementary Studies (2009-10) of the Environmental Impact Assessment of the Foz Tua Hydroelectric Dam, promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. Data were collected between November 2009 and March 2010 in a non-systematic way in 20 2x2 km UTM squares on the area of the lower Tua valley directly or indirectly affected by the Foz Tua dam. The presence of individuals was recorded mainly through the detection presence signs such as scats, tracks, etc.

The dataset contains records of nocturnal birds (Aves: Strigidae), and particularly the Eagle Owl (Bubo bubo) collected in the lower valley of the River Tua and included in the Complementary Studies (2009-2010) of the Environmental Impact Assessment of the Foz Tua Hydroelectric Dam, promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. Data were collected between March and April 2010 during field visits to 39 sampling points in 20 2x2 km UTM squares on the area of the lower Tua valley directly or indirectly affected by the Foz-Tua dam. The presence of individuals was recorded by acoustic observation.

This dataset includes results of surveys made in and around the area affected by the dams, from May 2010 to August 2014. Plant inventories were made along the lower Sabor river valley and in some tributaries, from the river mouth up to 42 km upstream, in a variable number of 1x1 km squares, depending on the year (range: 100-142).

The dataset contains records of vascular plants collected in the lower valley of River Sabor (NE Portugal) in the scope of the long-term Ecological Monitoring Program (PME) of the Baixo Sabor Hydroelectric Dams (AHBS), promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A, to assess the spreading capacity of exotic invasive species in the work front (dam structures and complementary works – dam yards, quarries, heaps, work front and road accesses) during the dams construction period (2010-14). Plant inventories were collected in line transects performed on foot, in all work front sites, along 42 km upstream, in the Sabor valley, and in the Vilariça stream.

The dataset contains records of Vascular Flora and Habitats collected the scope of the Complementary Studies (2010-11) and the baseline year (i.e., before construction) of the Ecological Monitoring Program of the Environmental Impact Assessment of the Foz Tua Hydroelectric Dam, promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. Data were collected in the spring 2011, during field visits to 24 sampling points, distributed along the river Tua valley, from the mouth to 52 km upstream.

The dataset contains records of Phytobenthos collected in the lower valley of River Sabor (NE Portugal) in the scope of the long-term Ecological Monitoring Program (PME) of the Baixo Sabor Hydroelectric Dams (AHBS), promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. Data were collected in May 2012, during field visits to 23 sampling stations located along the lower Sabor valley up to 70 km upstream of the mouth, and in the Vilariça stream. A total of 9552 individuals belonging to 78 species and other taxonomic categories were found and identified.
