Monitoring of rocky reef communities in Tuscan Archipelago
Since 2005, periodic monitoring is conducted at multiple shallow reef sites across the Tuscan Archipelago, including areas both inside and outside marine protected zones. Sampling occurs approximately every 3-4 years and targets reef fishes and benthic communities using standardized transects. Reef fish surveys are conducted along 2.5x5 m transects at 32 sites, using two complementary protocols since 2022 to allow intercalibration. Th project generates annotated datasets and imagery to support long-term biodiversity assessment and species identification.
