Veluwe Forest Model Virtual Lab
Forests are among the most biodiverse ecosystems that once covered large parts of Europe. However, with increasing land use intensity, forest cover declined as well as biodiversity in the remaining forests. To better understand forest biodiversity dynamics and to halt biodiversity loss, we need an integrated approach that enables understanding and prediction of the current and future impacts of direct and indirect anthropogenic drivers on forest biodiversity.
The Veluwe forest ecosystem is one of the Netherlands' largest contiguous forest areas and a designated Natura 2000 area that is heavily affected by nitrogen deposition. At the level of the Veluwe, impacts of global change, national policy and local management come together.
With this goal and scope in mind the LTER-LIFE Veluwe team is developing a forest landscape model of the Veluwe. Since February 2025 it serves as a LTER-LIFE Veluwe use case.<div><br></div><div>The vLab has been created by using the LifeWatch NaaVRE platform (<a href=" https://naavre.net" target="_blank"> https://naavre.net/</a>) .</div>
